A LOW VISCOSITY HEAT CURING SYSTEM
Epoxy Diluent C is a mono epoxy flexibilizer and reactive diluent. It is compatible with Epoxy Resin 520, Epoxy resin 505 , Epoxy Resin 400 and has excellent stability at room temperature as well as lower temperatures.
Salient Features
- Epoxy Resin 400 is a solid resin intended for use as a casting system in electrical industry.
- Epoxy Resin 400 is to be used in combination with Hardner 400 as a heat curing system. This combination is characterized by :
- Low viscosity at processing temperature
- Good adhesion to most organic and inorganic materials
- Reduced shrinkage & exotherm
- Lower coefficient of linear expansion
- Good mechanical & electrical properties along with good chemical and water resistance
- Increase thermal conductivity and mechanical properties

Mixing Properties & Processing
- 100 parts by weight of Epoxy Resin 400 and 30 ± 1 parts by weight of Hardner 400
- Take a desired quantity of Epoxy Resin 400 in a vessel and heat it upto 130 – 135°C . Add proportionate quantity of Hardner 400 to hot Epoxy Resin 400 and stir the mixture well. For obtaining increase pot life, Epoxy Resin 400 + Hardner 400 should be maintained at 120 – 130°C. Epoxy Resin 400 + Hardner 400 mixtures should be poured into the moulds that have been preheated & treated with releasing agent and maintained at 130°C.
Demoulding
- The casting should be demoulded when the mould is warm. It is possible to demould the casting as soon as Epoxy Resin 400 / Hardner 400 has advanced to the stage, when the mass is solid enough to demould. Then the demoulded casting should be further cured in the oven for complete curing.
Pot Life
- Pot Life at 120°C : 100 – 150 minutes
- Gel time at 150°C : 30 – 35 minutes
Addition Of Fillers
- Dried fillers can be incorporated depending upon the performance requirement initially. It is essential to dry the filler in oven at 150°C - 200°C for 4 – 6 hrs to remove absorbed moistures. Wherever vacuum mixing facilities are available, additional fillers can be added to Epoxy Resin 400 under vacuum at 130 -–135°C. In the absence of such facility, Mixing of hot fillers to Epoxy Resin 400 which is maintained at 130 – 135°C is recommended under constant stirring.
Typical Properties Of Cured Epoxy Compound
- Specimen curing – 16 hrs at 120°C

Applications
- Epoxy Resin 400 in combination with Hardner 400 is suitable for
- Casting, potting and sealing of small to large sized electrical and electronic components
- Casting of switch gear components and insulators
- Potting of instrument transformers
- Sealing of Oil / Chlorinated diphenyl filled capacitors
Safe Handling
- Epoxy 400 has hardly any effect on the skin & mucous membrane while Hardner 400 does effect skin. Direct contact with skin should therefore be avoided by using rubber gloves & goggles. Affected area of skin should be scrubbed with 5% acetic and washed plenty of water & soap.
